| Special Notice for Iwate International Sculpture Symposium in 2004 |
| Dear Everybody, who is interested in IISS.
I was questioned by a couple of people about What is happening and how one can apply for participation in the Iwate International Sculpture Symposium in 2004, . We just celebrated last yearin 2003 the 30th. anniversary of Iwate International Sculpture Symposium.
This year in 2004, we lost funding. We will not organise Symposium, but instead, series of local discussions about how we can improve the Symposium in the future.

|

Kate went to the press opening at MAM, Mori Art Museum in Tokyo.They have collection from MOMA. Unfortunately in Tokyo it was terrible weather, so says Kate, her MoMAcatalogue paper bag has broken on the street! Not only the catalogue but also all her memos she made of the press opening about the show, which she needs to write article for the Japan times next week, are wet. But a few days later, MAM sent her all infomations of the press release and DRY catalogues to Ukishima.Thank you very much! (HK) |

| Saturday 24th. April, "Ginza Hangover" |
|
Completely hangover. I just managed to escape out of hotel 5min. before check out. Got to Ginza to see Ms.Moryou's textile show and from there on the way to Shiseido Gallery on the other side of Ginza, at the Apple store Ginza I found Yagi playing with PowerMac! He helped me recovering from hangover at cafe around the corner for a while, and he told me about our friends' shows on at the moment at the other galleries. So I first went to see Atsuo Okamoto at Gallery Yamaguchi and then Takera Narita' show at kaneko Art Gallery. I had a nice talk about Austrian Symposiums and common friends with Narita. He has been living and working in Paris for 22 years. he now lives in Yamanashi in Japan. He belongs to, so to say, the first generation of Japanese modern stone sculptors went off to abroad mainly Europe. Niizuma started stone carving at Tokyo Art Academy first. And he went to New York (until he got his US citizenship). Also Narita in Paris, Nakajima in Austria, Akiyama in Germany and Kiyoshi Takahashi in Mexico. They all tried to survive in unknown civilizations in order to learn europian(foreign) art perfectly by themselves alone. Thereyou find some serious meanings of being in abroard for japanese artists. These people are just like Samurai. Spiritual endurance, per harps. But, my generation might have a different attitude and approach from them allready to foreign cultures. We rather accept europian(american) culture automatically as well as my japanese one without looking at it carefully since we are kids. Do we have to rework to integrate them in us? We probably have our homework still not yet done. (HK)

| Friday 23rd. April, Armin Gueriano and Anton Manabe Show" |

I met Armin in 1995 in Lindabrunn. He helped us putting the symposium project report with his Mac. He is an Austrian painter and his brother, Tomas Hoke is a sculptor, who is also a good friend of mine. Anton is living in Nikko with his family and making wooden sculptures. They had a two man show at the Austrian Embassy in Tokyo. (HK) |

We started with Sake at 4:00pm at "Windsor" in Azabujuban. Then we, Armin, Resi and me went upto Mori Art Museum to see Kusama Show and good look around Tokyo view. Came down to see my piece at restaurant An, Then back to Windsor to join with Anton, Chie and his friends to drink Beer until their exhibition opened at 7:00. Red wines meanwhile. Then, we moved to "Monsoon" restaurant and had a lot of beer and fun as you can see in photograph, On the way home, Armin, Resi and I stopped in some bar to have a cupple of glasses of Wodka. I do not remember now how I have found the way to my hotel afterwards but certainly remember we had a great time!(HK) |

Ivo and Junna are professional dancers, now teaching in Hachinohe. We are talking about collaboration project of visual art and performance art together sometime next year.(HK) |

Cinnamon chaught a big pheasant in our garden. I do not know how she did, but the only reason I can think about is maybe that this poor pheasant has just lost his lovely family by car accident during his hollidays and did not get insurrance money or somethig. I mean he was trying to commit suiside in front of a stupid old dog.(HK) |

| I had Pyrolli chech again today and obviously they are wipe out by the antibiotics completeyl! Now the doctor told me not to come back to the hospital and no more medicines. Great! For 30years of suffering from stomack and twelve finger intestine ulcer is ended?!(HK) |

Mayor liked the macquette and the project now really going ahead. Sculpture has to be completed at the begining of September this year. And this is thesite for it.(HK) |

Spring hollidy is over. School started from today. I am cutting Sean's over grown hair. I still have serious back pain! not able to start working again yet, which maybe caused by driving to Sendai return.(HK) |

Today is the free swimming day after all classes over yesterday.Emily and Sean spent over 2hours in the water playing with ather children. We drove back to Ukishima and arrived at late afternoon.(HK) |

Sendai Science Museumis just funtastic. Best Sci museum I have ever seen. Modern comfortable architecture, immaginative displays and great experiment corners, so many computers to play and ral cockpit of airplanes and cars, etc... |

Emily and I went to hair cut, where my family is going over 20years near my parents house. Everybody enjoyed cutting Emily's hair, which took 1and half hours!(HK) |

When we at last came home late, there are all my sister's children playing Game Cube again!(HK) |

| Thursday 1st. April |
|
|
Emily and Sean is taking swimming class for fine days in Sendai. I drove down to join them from Ukishima. Naoya, Sean and Emily's cousin, brought his Game Cube to play together. |
