Setting Sculpture at Shinjuku Lois Cafe at 7 am. On the way home still in Tokyo, I pass by Kamikado's office in Ikebukuro, so I dropped in and had lunch together. Arrived home at 8pm. after 24hours trip.(HK) |

Decided to transport sculpture in back of Toyota by mysely alone to Shinjuku restaurant today. Started 8pm from Ukishima, drove through heavy rain on the motorway. Slept 3hours in the service area car park somewhere in Fukushima and arriver in Tokyo at 6am in the morning. (HK) |

| Iwate Kawaguchi Autumn Festival. We also try to see the parade yesterday but it was somehow too late, fo we went to straight to Mr.Segawa's house, the vice mayors of iwate town, where we were invited to the dinner party. There we all had funtastic japanese meal and I got pretty drunk. (HK) |

Drilled 65holes and manged to splitted under rain, but unfortunately there were some stain around the edge and which might be possibilities stone come out with strange surface colour after a couple of decade. No cruck. Might save this stone for next project.(HK) |

Still looking for a bigger stone for the Art Road Sculpture. Found one in Himegami mountain, I started to try splitting it to see if there is any cruck or problems inside of the stone. If it's O.K. this stone shoud be big enough for the project. 6m lond and over 100 tonsof weight.(HK) |

| 第一回大地の芸術祭作品マリーナ・アブラモヴィッチ（旧ユーゴスラヴィア）「夢の家」。改造した民家で、だれでも宿泊できる。右のカラフルなスーツパジャマを着て、同じ色の光の部屋で、石の枕のついた、棺桶みたいなベットに寝るのだ。そして翌朝、自分の見た夢を備え付けの「夢ノート」に記録していく、という作品。こんなところで寝たら、確実に悪夢にうなされそうだ！。 |

その隣の蔵にあるのが、ジャネット・ローレンス（オーストリア）「エリクシール/不老不死の薬」。ここでは彼女が処方した薬草酒の数々が保管されていて、訪問者はどれでも好きなものを一杯だけ味見できる。ボランティアの子がひとりで、準備が大変そうだった。みんな興味津々で行列の順番待ち。 |

手塚貴晴＋由比設計の越後松之山「森の学校」キョロロ。総コールテン鋼製の要塞みたいなすさまじい建築。でも中の空間は柔らかでヒューマンスケールだ。中はギャラリー空間と展望塔。オーストリアのアボリジニ芸術展を開催中。展望台には光と音の仕掛けがある。昼のカフェで、また北川さんとばったり。 |

午後に「農舞台」で奥野姉と合流して、水内貴英「ミーツ」、ツリーハウスでお茶をごちそうになり、地元の部落の人たちが作った茶碗の底に出てくるおのおのの質問に訪問者が答えると言うコミュニケーション・ワーク。我々が行ったときには予約で一杯だったので残念ながら、見るだけ。 |

長澤伸穂「透けてみえる眼」。トリエンナーレ鑑賞最後の作品となった。その周辺に住む家族の写真を、中と外と二重の「行灯」にして、古い民家にいくつもおいてあった。私が行ったときにはちょうどそのモデルとなった家族が数組来ていて、「おお、じいさんだ、じいさんだ。おばさんもいるぞ」なんて言いながら、行灯の前の座布団にどかっと腰を下ろして嬉しそうに眺めている親父がいた。単純なアイディアで、別にハイテクでもなんでもないけれど、空き家となった民家の中に浮かぶ光、屈託のない静かな表情の笑顔と写真は、見ていてほっとする。じーんと感動してしまった。 |

| 今夜中に僕は仙台、ケイトは東京へ帰りたいので、4時半の「とき」に乗る。結局この二日間に、レンタカーで300km近く走っていた！250数点の作品が散在する山また山、結局印象に残ったのは何点かの作品と、その作品のある田園風景、田園背景。棚田、信濃川。150人以上いるというボランティアの少年少女たちが、どこであっても気持ちよく元気でにこやか、地元のおじさんおばさんたちも、汗かきかき、駐車場の車誘導やら案内やら走り回っていたのが、印象的だった。特に、初日泊まった十日町市「むかでや」の（とってもアートになんか縁のなさそうな）女中さんが、あっちこっちの作品を見て回ったときの不思議と感激を目を輝かせながら、延々と（早く出かけたい）我々を相手にしゃべっていたのは忘れられない。疲弊した瀕死の社会へのカンフル剤として、ビタミン剤としての現代アート、ここ越後で見事に大活躍！感激。(HK) |

| 朝、起きてみたら雨。珍しく天気予報が当たった。奥野さんとの待ち合わせ時間の10時までまだ時間があるので、十日町の町中を二人で散歩。電柱にカラフルな旗が巻き付けられて、フェスティバルムード。中庭が池になっている原広司設計のトリエンナーレセンター、十日町ステージ「越後妻有交流館・キナーレ」を見に行くと、ばったり、北川さんと会った。さっそく地図を広げてこれからの鑑賞コースを設定してもらう。あわててレンタカーを拾って、やっと駅前で奥野さんと李さんと合流。10時半スタート。(HK) |

ローレン・バーコヴィッツ（オーストリア）「収穫の家」、カサグランデ＆リンターラ建築事務所（フィンランド）「ポスト・インダストリアル・メディテーション」。リンターラ作品はコールテン鋼と白砂利の現代的和風庭園。そのスペースのプロポーション、素材感が見事。今回見た中で私の一番好きな作品だった。 |

第一回の作品ジェームズ・タレル「光の家」。泊まれます。超大人気。一泊二万円＋。でも、超現代的かつ超和風、不思議アートな空間は、一度は是非泊まってみたい。 |

オランダの若手ユニット「MVRDY」設計の松代ステージ「農舞台」、すごい！こんな建築ありかよ！この「まつだい雪国農耕文化村センター」で否か精進料理の昼食。河口龍夫「関係ー黒板の教室」、ジャン＝リュック・ヴィルムート「カフェ・ルフレ」、牛島達治「くむ・めぐむ・いとなむ」。ここで何十年ブリかの友人とばったり。 |

祭國強の建てた登り窯、「ドラゴン現代美術館」での、初の展覧会はキキ・スミス「小休止」。土砂降りの中、斜面をずるずると滑りながらの見学。不思議なロマンチシズム。 |

夜御飯を食べて、見に行ったクリスチャン・ボルタンスキー＋ジャン・カルマン「夏の旅」、古い小学校の校舎全部を使ってのインスタレーション。夜見に行ったら、結構怖かった。今夜泊まりの松之山温泉。ほぼ予約で一杯だったが、小さな「明星旅館」に泊まる。その松之山温泉の看板を作ったジャン・クルメリング、浅葉克己（テキスト）「ステップ・イン・プラン」。 |

My mother came to Ukishima from Sendai this morning to look after our children during our visit to Niigata. We just managed to get onto the afternoon train to Tokyo. After meeting at Spin off about my new project in Shinjuku, We went to see my last piece at Roppomgi Hills and also the most expensive, fresh opened shop of Lui Viton around here! Then caught the last train to Tookamachi in Niigata to look around the "Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale" organised by From Kitagawa of Art Front Gallery, the hottest art project at the moment in Japan.(HK) |

I was explaning the ideas for the Iwate Art Road project to our mayer and managers of the town. It took us to finish the meeting for 2hours, but Mayer said the project should go ahead! We are going to be very busy until the end of this year! (HK) |
